Accessibility
Come as You Are
At Sky & Stone, we believe movement should be available to everybody.
We've designed our House to be an accessible, welcoming and low-pressure space, with thoughtful consideration given to different physical, sensory and individual needs.
Our experiences are multisensory by nature, but accessibility doesn't mean everyone experiences them in exactly the same way. We make space for you to find the way that works for you.
If you're unsure whether a particular class or element of the experience will suit your needs, please get in touch before booking. We're very happy to talk it through with you.
We recognise that not every disability or individual need is visible; please share only what you feel comfortable sharing, and we'll do our best to support you.
I AM SO | WELCOME
A gentler way in.
I AM SO | WELCOME has been created specifically for those who may benefit from a smaller, quieter and more adaptable experience.
Groups are smaller, music is quieter and there is more space to move at your own pace. The temperature is lower, and the teacher will speak with guests on arrival before shaping the session around the needs of those attending.
It may be particularly suited to those who are:
- Pregnant
- Bringing a pre-crawling baby
- Using a wheelchair
- Accompanied by an assistance dog or a well-behaved dog
- Sensitive to sound, light, heat or busy environments
- Simply more comfortable with a quieter, lower-sensory experience
There is no expectation, no judgement and no particular level of ability required.
For some, Welcome may be their first step into Sky & Stone.
STEP-FREE ACCESS
Sky & Stone has step-free access, including access to the studio and WC.
Our WC is spacious enough to accommodate a wheelchair and is fitted with handrails.
Wheelchair users are welcome to remain in their wheelchair throughout the practice. There is no expectation that you transfer onto a yoga mat.
If you require step-free access, we recommend parking on (to be revealed soon). Enter the upper terrace to the right of our building and follow the terrace unitil you see the sign for Sky & Stone | YOGA HOUSE.
A MULTISENSORY EXPERIENCE
Sky & Stone is designed to engage more than the physical body. Depending on the experience, you may encounter:
Sound — including immersive and occasionally binaural audio.
Light — including bright projection and, at times, flashing or changing light.
Temperature — some experiences take place in heated environments, with temperatures varying according to the class.
Scent — certain experiences may incorporate fragrance or essential oils.
We understand that sensory experiences affect everyone differently. If you know that particular sounds, lights, scents or temperatures may be difficult for you, please check the individual class information before booking or contact us beforehand.
TAKE THE SPACE YOU NEED
You don't need to keep moving simply because the class is moving.
During a practice, you're welcome to pause, rest, lie down or modify a movement whenever you need to.
If you become overwhelmed or simply need a moment, you can settle on your mat or move to the quieter space towards the back of the room. Your teacher will be there to support you.
For everyone's safety and the integrity of the experience, we ask that guests remain within the studio during the session wherever possible.
If you do need to leave the room unexpectedly, please speak to your teacher where possible. An external door is available should it be necessary to step outside, although re-entry may need to wait until the session has finished.
There is no need to push through or try to keep up. Rest is sometimes an important part of the practice. You are in control.
WHEELCHAIRS & ADAPTIVE PRACTICE
Sky & Stone is never about achieving a particular shape.
Wheelchair users are welcome to remain in their chair throughout the practice, adapting movements to suit their own body and range of movement.
Our teachers can offer modifications where appropriate, and I AM SO | WELCOME provides the most flexible environment for exploring what works for you.
If you'd like to discuss your individual requirements before attending, please contact us. We'd be very happy to talk through the experience with you.
ASSISTANCE DOGS
Assistance dogs are welcome at So Hum House.
Our I AM SO | WELCOME also welcomes well-behaved dogs, because we know that for some people, being able to bring their companion makes an experience feel considerably more accessible.
Please let us know when booking if you're bringing a dog so that we can make sure there is space for them.
PREGNANCY
We welcome pregnant guests to I AM SO | WELCOME.
Because heat can present additional considerations during pregnancy, we don't recommend our heated classes during pregnancy. If you are considering attending a heated experience while pregnant, please seek appropriate medical advice first.
Welcome is different. If a pregnant guest is attending, the teacher will not heat the class, and the session will be adapted around the individuals attending that day.
If you're pregnant and considering joining us, please speak to us before booking. We'd be happy to discuss the experience with you.
SHOWERS & CHANGING
The WC is step-free and wheelchair accessible, with handrails.
Our showers are not wheelchair accessible, so if you require an accessible shower, we recommend arriving ready for your practice and planning not to shower at the House afterwards.
BEFORE YOU VISIT
Every body is different. Every sensory experience is different. And sometimes you simply need to know what to expect.
If there's something you're unsure about — whether that's heat, sound, lighting, scent, movement, wheelchair access, pregnancy, assistance dogs or anything else — please ask us before your visit.
You can tell us as much or as little as you're comfortable sharing.
There is no such thing as a silly question.
WE'RE STILL LEARNING
Accessibility isn't something we consider finished.
We're creating Sky & Stone with the intention of listening, learning and continuing to improve the experience for the people who use it.
If there's something we've missed, or something we could do differently to make your visit more comfortable, we genuinely want to hear from you.
